Create Your Own 3d Avatar
To create an avatar, you will need 3d modeling software. The most popular and best programs are Autodesk and Poser. Autodesk products are the best, but the cost can push many people into using Poser. What many people do not realize is that the high software acquisition cost is for commercial companies. Singe individuals can get a copy for a lot less money.
Get a Workstation for 3d Modeling
You computer is another item that may need to be upgraded. Most people that create 3d stuff use a workstation instead of a desktop. Workstations are basically desktops with a high end graphics card called open gl. Nvidia makes a Quadro open gl graphics card and AMD makes a Firepro open gl graphics card. If you only want to make a couple avatars, then you may be able to get buy without purchasing a new graphics card. If you want to really get into 3d stuff, you should get a workstation with lots of ram, graphics cards, dual monitors, and a couple of large hard drives.
